Big Ransomware Outbreak Today – Be Vigilant

Reminds me of the p\/\/n4g3 of the late 90’s, early 2000’s.

The biggest difference is that it used to be destruction for some kind of ideology or the lulz, and now it’s for money -_- .

The Interlace Singapore

Neat.

The Interlace Singapore

Shkreli.

Kind of not what I expected. Kind of what I did expect.

DP-14 Hawk

This looks really amazing.

Add some plexiglass to fix the claustrophobia, and/or a screen inside to browse the internet or watch/listen to something, make it reliable and serviceable, write some good collision avoidance software, put a ballistic parachute on top, and IMO this is by far the most realistic and efficient prospect of a “flying car.”

80MPH cruise speed in a straight line without slowdowns.

Diversity Visa Lottery 2012 Data Analysis

Alright, well… the 2012 Diversity Visa Lottery selection results are now out!  If you’ve applied, you can check your status at the usual place – and you’d better remember your confirmation number, because otherwise you’re SOL – supposedly nobody can tell you what it is/was, and checking online is the only way to know if you’ve been selected.

Update:  It looks like the lottery’s been invalidated due to a computer programming error!  New results on the 15th of June.

If you don’t know what the Diversity Visa lottery is, well… in short it’s 50,000 “free” “green cards” to random people throughout the world with a minimum of a high school education and/or who have worked at least two years out of the last five in an occupation requiring at least two years of training.  It’s a supposedly (conspiracy theories aside) a “random” program where random people of the world with no restrictions to age, gender or nationality (except some quotas which have been reached to enable everyone to have an “even” chance) have a period of two months every year (usually Nov-Dec) to apply, and the winners of the lottery are selected a few months after (usually April-May). Japan: Before and After

It’s crazy stuff that’s going on in Japan right now – not so much because of the earthquake/tsunami (the country of Japan is situated on or close to the boundaries of several tectonic plates, so earthquakes and tsunamis are somewhat more common than the rest of the world, according to my understanding) as for the ongoing nuclear power plant situation.

It’s unfortunate that after the nuclear disasters of past decades, we are finding ourselves in a situation where again the circumstances present a problem where a nuclear power plant has somewhat “spun out of control.” It’s all cost/benefit I suppose – I’m sure circumstances exist where other nuclear power plants across the world could end up in similar situations. Not everything can be predicted and we can’t take perfectly adequate precautions against everything that could possibly happen.

I came upon these amazing before/after photos yesterday that show some of the extent of the damage in Japan though.
